Princess Louise of Stolberg-Gedern was born on November 20, 1752, in Gedern, Germany. She was the daughter of Prince Gustav Adolph of Stolberg-Gedern and Princess Louise Eleonore of Nassau-Saarbrücken. Louise married Prince Charles of Hesse-Kassel in 1766, and they had seven children together.
Louise was known for her intellectual abilities and her interest in the arts. She was a patron of the music composer Johann Anton André and supported his work in publishing musical compositions. She was also an accomplished botanist and created a botanical garden in Kassel.
During the French Revolution, Louise and her husband supported the royalist cause and hosted many French emigres at their court in Kassel. After her husband's death in 1836, Louise lived in retirement until her death on February 1, 1824. She was buried next to her husband in the mausoleum in Kassel.
